Re covered Books
So as we all know, books are brilliant, this is not a disputed fact, not by any sensible person anyway. I have over the years made many many books of varying description but I think one of my favourite books that I made as a gift was re binding a copy of the Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett for a collector and a most glorious friend.
So then I found myself overcome with an idea. As a huge fan of books I thought that it might be interesting to rebind a classic book in an individual and bespoke covering. Now I felt I had a new purpose in life…I was a resuscitator of books, a reviver of old musty flappy covers.
Consequent works have been a series of heirloom Jane Austen books with beautiful floral paper as a set, collections of folk songs and literature classics. By doing this I am also able to really personalise a book for its recipient, I have even rebound a book in patchwork made from old shirts and tapestry sampler.
